WI Gov Walker's Transportation Dept Proposes Massive Tax Hike

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha ! ( That should be heard as something sounding like a bittersweet, rueful, cackling laugh. )

Teapartiers and G O P supporters of 'soft rock star' Scott Walker, YOU HAVE JUST BEEN SCREWED OVER YET AGAIN. ( Whether you know, realize, or admit it - well, that's another thing altogether. )

The state Transportation Dept in your hero's state gov't ( i e , the state agency that handles motor vehicles and driver licensing ) is proposing raising taxes and other fees on Wisconsin motorists to the tune of about 3/4ths of a BILLION dollars ! And that's just over the next 2 yrs.

I'm sure his 'followers' will excuse it all cuz after all hey he's not one of them LIBERALS. Oh, and he is putting the screws to people who drive electric cars and hybrid cars by hitting them with a special $ 50 annual tax, so take THAT electric/hybrid car drivers ! You Democrat party lovers can write 'Obama-CAR' in the memo field when you write out your $ 50 checks. That'll teach you a lesson !

Never mind the people living outside reality who assumed Romney not only would win but would win in a landslide of epic proportions.

Never mind that nonsense, for now. They weren't just wrong on that, they were out in some never-never land of denying that we breathe air, denying the law of gravity, and denying that there is even such a thing as "denial."

Any reconciliation process must include TRUTH-TELLING.

The indefensible, infamous crosshairs map is referred to as a 'hit-list' because that's what it deserves to be called : a hit-list.

Last Saturday Sarah Palin did not put a bullet in Gabrielle Giffords' head. That terrible deed was done by someone else.

But Sarah Palin put Gabrielle Giffords and 19 other Federal officials in the crosshairs of a gunsight. She exclaimed, 'Reload!' with the unveiling of her hit-list. And she signed her name to it - literally.

Everyone can understand this truth :

If you or I posted a hit-list of names in gunsight cross hairs, declared 'Re-load!' and then at least 11 of the 20 names on our list received serious death threats, had offices vandalized or shot at, and one of the 'targets' ended up with a bullet in her head, and all the 'targets' on our list happened to be Federal officials . . .

. . . well, you can be certain that regardless of our real intentions, you or I would still be sitting in a hard chair in a small windowless room, being asked a whole lot of questions by the F B I and other law enforcement agencies.

7 weeks ago, the Republicans took back the House, generating the mother of all disconnects, particularly on "our" side.

On the one hand, during those 7 weeks we had folks here and elsewhere screaming and howling about how the Republicans retaking the House (while the Democrats kept the Senate and -- ahem -- the White House) was the end of the world.

You would think last night the Democrats lost the White House, the Senate, and the House by some of the reactions here and elsewhere.

The past 75 years of mid-term election history should have clued people in that Congressional losses were likely to occur. The party that doesn't have control of the White House usually makes big gains in midterm elections.

So what happened with the House last night was not a surprise. What is a surprise, however, is the Republicans failing to take the Senate when you look at their big gains in the House.

In fact, in what is a fairly rare public display of dissension ( considering the triumphalism of last night ) -

Long-simmering tensions within the Republican Party spilled into public view Wednesday as the pragmatic and conservative wings of the GOP blamed each other in blunt terms for the party’s failure to capture the Senate.

We all knew it was a distinct possibility. After President McCain's inauguration earlier this year, there was always a chance that an elderly president with a history of health scares could succumb under the enormous pressure of the world's toughest job...especially with two wars dragging on, a Great Recession, the health care fiasco, and the ongoing spectre of terrorism.

I would never wish ill to an elderly man; it's just a plain fact that a number of factors -- including age, a history of health scares, and multiple severe stressors related to the job -- could have led to President Sarah Palin.

Let's flash back to 2005 when the IOC announced the Summer Olympics location for 2012: London, Paris, Madrid, Moscow, and New York were the five finalists.

US President George W Bush made a strong videotaped appeal to the IOC to choose New York City for the 2012 Games.

Note : videotaped. Bush did not risk an in-person appeal for a bid that many knew at the time would probably not be successful.

4 years ago, New York finished in 4th place - just like Chicago this year.

What was the reaction then to - as right-wingers like Sludge might put it - 'the world's rejection of Bush' ?

This whole health care "controversy" is absolutely mind-boggling. For decades, the American people have repeatedly made it clear that this is THE highest domestic priority, right up there with jobs and the economy in general.

Meanwhile, the Republican Party has made it even more clear -- decade after decade -- that if a Democratic president and Congress ever succeed in providing some form of national health care coverage in America, they are screwed politically.

So their tactic is, once again, to try to destroy any effort to enact national health care coverage, no matter what type of system is proposed.
