I live in Deer Island, OR (about 40 miles north of Portland). I'm a paralegal/P.I. who works for attorneys specializing in indigent defense. I'm an Obama supporter, but will vote for any Democrat in '08.

Yes!  NPR covers the WVWV robocalls

Thu May 01, 2008 at 07:24:13 PM PDT

This is the first, almost thorough, traditional media coverage that I've seen on the NC robo-calls that FacingSouth has been writing about.   NPR really did a good job on this one.

Here's the link:  Group with Clinton Ties Behind Dubious Robocalls  This is the first headline about this matter that I've seen that includes the Clinton connection.

Obama:  Style and Substance

Mon Jan 21, 2008 at 02:32:54 PM PDT

Mark Kleiman at the Reality-Based Community blog has managed to articulate perfectly the argument against the accusations that some have made against Barack Obama; e.g. "He's all style and no substance," or "He's an empty suit."  It's quite short, and I encourage you all to read it:

Style, Substance and "Kumbaya"

Obama Inspires at Iowa Church

Sun Nov 25, 2007 at 03:24:44 PM PDT

I just caught this synopsis of a surprise visit that Obama made to Union Missionary Baptist Church in Des Moines, IA this morning.

[Disclaimer:  I swoon for Obama, so stop reading right now if you find that annoying.  FWIW, I'm also a lapsed Catholic.]

Politico link here:  Obama Casts Himself as Civil Rights Successor.  If a transcript of the speech becomes available, I will post it.

I'm no longer a very religious person, but I was moved by Obama's use of the Moses narrative:

"I didn’t have to go to jail. I haven’t had my head beat in — haven’t had dogs and fire hoses set on me. So I’m benefiting from what the Moses generation did. . . . The question is whether the Joshuas among us are willing to stand up, are willing to be counted, are willing to vote, are willing to organize, are willing to mobilize, are willing to get going.”

Another planted question from an "undecided voter"? [Updated]

Sat Nov 17, 2007 at 12:18:38 PM PDT

The Carptebagger Report is running a story which includes a discussion of the "undecided voter" status of LaShannon Spencer, who, during the CNN debate, asked the question about the methodology of the candidates' Supreme Court nominee selection.

Open Letter to Nancy Pelosi

Sat Jul 14, 2007 at 07:17:27 PM PDT

Dear Representative Nancy Pelosi:

I have a gift for you.  I really want you to like it.  In fact, I pray that you like it.  It is the link to the Bill Moyers Journal episode that should be called Impeachment for Dummies, but is actually titled Tough Talk on Impeachment.

You can either watch the video or read the transcript at this link:
